When PinoyStitch first started offering free cross stitch patterns based on Filipino Paintings back in 2003, one of the main mission was to preserve and reintroduce the artistry of Filipino art to the Filipinos. It was a nudge to the local community to say, "Hey look we have great artists in our own turf! You don't need to look far." At least what I thought at that time was that the website audience would be limited only to Filipinos, however as years progressed, it became apparent that Filipino art was not only appreciated by the Filipinos but had the nod of the International community as well.

One of the more popular Filipino artist is Fernando Amorsolo. His cross stitch pattern paintings are currently the bestselling downloads at our website. The theme of the cross stitch is very Filipino, for instance Harvesting Rice, the Water Carrier and Tindera de Manga depicts the romance of the Philippine country life. The paintings of Amorsolo is typical of the early 30's and 40's era rustic Philippine landscape. Not that there were no hardships during those period, but I would like to think he took a more positive if not idealistic approach to seeing life with beauty and inspiration. He was often criticized for romanticizing country life but in doing so, he has ingrained his artwork in the global community. Art after all is created to inspire.
